Outright Vermont to Conduct Workshop on Bullying and Harassment for House B Students

Outright Vermont will conduct a workshop on Tuesday, April 7th for House B students to further their understanding of bullying and harassment and teach students ways to respond that improve school climate for all students.  Outright is an organization that has worked with middle schools throughout Vermont to create safe environments for at risk students, especially gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, and questioning youth.  We are lucky to have this workshop to extend student learning as part of our Power to the People Humanities Unit and as part of our advisory theme on uniqueness.

SPECIAL EVENT REMINDER: MMS ART SHOW THURSDAY 4/2/15

Hello Parents, Community members, and Students,
Our students are excited to share special projects inspired by their recent study of people who have had to struggle for their human and/or civil rights. Each student is working hard to create a piece of original art (which includes music, dance, spoken word, as well as visual arts) that expresses the struggle for equality. They will share their artwork on Thursday, April 2, 2015, from 5:30-7:30 at Milton High School. Each student's schedule will be similar in structure to the science fair, in which they will have a certain block of time when they need to be present with the artwork, and then a time to explore the art show. The art show will culminate at 7:00 in the auditorium with closing remarks by a special guest.

Please help your student be ready for this event by making sure their art is nearly complete for Monday, March 31, 2015. We will use the next few days for fine tuning, giving and receiving feedback, and practice. Students who have fallen behind will be asked to stay after school in the following days for extra help.
Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you at the art show.

HOUSE B

March 11, 2015
Dear House B Families,
It is time for the second round of Student-Led Parent Conferences! The 2014-15 school year will soon be over, and this is an excellent time for you to see your child’s growth and progress. We know that you discuss school and learning with your child on a regular basis.  We invite you to participate in this opportunity to have a more formal and structured discussion led by your child, to reflect on his or her successes, challenges, and growth during this trimester.
At the Student-Led Parent Conference, your child will share a portfolio of artifacts of his or her learning – work from each class that he or she has thoughtfully selected to demonstrate learning and growth.  In addition to these artifacts, your child will discuss reflections on successes and challenges in each academic area, and the goals he or she set for the second trimester of the year. These goals encompass both lifelong learning skills and the Habits of Mind that students are striving to achieve in our Middle School: flexible thinking, preparedness, citizenship, persistence, and precision. In response to your feedback, we are holding all of the conferences in one space this session, which eliminates teachers moving from one room to the next. While all teachers will be present during the conferences, please know that the purpose of the conference is for your child to share his/her learning experience with you, unlike a traditional parent-teacher conference. It can be difficult for each teacher to visit each conference. If you have specific concerns or questions that go unanswered please contact your child’s teachers.
We are scheduling conferences on the evenings of Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in classrooms 212 and 213.  We look forward to seeing you at this important event!
Sincerely,
Debbie Chanin - Consulting Teacher Josh Roof - Humanities
Greer Krembs - Science Ellen H. Taggart - Humanities
Francine Lemnah - Math
