Summer Reading

Greetings and Happy Summer,

Your students have one summer reading book this year: Flying Lessons and Other Stories by Ellen Oh. It is a collection of ten short stories; I think there's something for everyone in it! Students should read all ten stories. If your student lost their book or didn't get one, there are extra copies in the MMS office.

Please keep up a reading practice this summer: students are still encouraged to read 30 minutes every day. For some book recommendations, see the following recommendation page.

Play outside, visit your public library, and have a great summer!

Power to the People Celebration This Thursday!

Who: Family and Friends of Milton Middle School 7th and 8th graders

What: Power to the People Celebration

Where: Milton High School

When: Thursday, June 7th @ 6 pm

Why: To get inspired and celebrate student learning and artwork about people who have made change

Dear Team Prospect Families,

We are very excited to invite you to a unit-end celebration of learning at 6 pm on June 7th at Milton High School. This celebration is connected to our 7th and 8th graders’ final unit of the year: Power to the People. In this unit, students have learned about different groups and their struggles for equality. Students are researching change makers and writing essays about them. As a final performance task, students are creating art that expresses a viewpoint about the movement connected to their change maker. There will be paintings, sculptures, modified board games, poetry, video, dance, and short plays.

This is an opportunity to bring the community together to witness some powerful, unique art that will give everyone something to talk about.

Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Rehm or Mr. Lafferty if you have any questions. Thank you for your commitment to your child’s education. We look forward to celebrating with you on June 7.

Best,

The Milton Middle School Humanities Team.

Prospect Field Trip on June 8th to Rock Point

Hi,

We are planning a trip to Rock Point on June 8th to explore the rock formations around the famous Fault Thrust. We will hike along the Rock Point paths and take observations via pictures in small groups. We will end up at North Beach for lunch, group sharing, and some team games.

All students have been handed a permission slip in science class. You may use the link below if the hard copy does not make it home.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwNgR-A73jbDQjZ6dXhjRV93b1VzMEtSZGxqbWRoYUtWV25B

You will notice a basic permission form on the front page and a "to-bring" and tentative schedule on the back side. If students are unable to walk all the paths then there are other ways to get around to see some of the rock formations. Keep me posted of any concerns you might have. We thought we might be able to swim but recently found out that there will be NO SWIMMING OR WADING during this trip.

Students may bring their own lunch or request a bag lunch from school. Please keep me posted if a student wants to request a bag lunch.

You may email or call me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Please keep me posted if your student does not plan to attend that day.

Sincerely,
Duncan Wardwell
