Navigating House B for the New School Year

Dear House B Students and Families,

Welcome to the new school year.  We have gotten off to a great start over the course of the first week of school.  Our opening theme for our learning community this year is BELONGING.  Belonging is one of the three basic human needs for social and emotional wellness -- along with autonomy and mastery.  Students developed their own definitions of belonging in Humanities.  They believe belonging means among other things:

  • feeling known and cared for
  • feeling appreciated and respected
  • feeling where you fit in and are comfortable in an environment
  • feeling equal and welcomed
  • when you make someone feel special and part of the group
  • being heard and noticed
  • when you can be yourself and you're accepted
  • when you feel like you can learn without being nervous
We will spend the beginning of the year understanding and acting on our knowledge of the need for belonging to reach our goal of creating a sense of belonging for everyone on House B.  This work will take place in our Advisories, whole team meetings and activities, and in our classrooms.

We will be using this blog to communicate with you about learning activities.  The Humanities and Science pages will be updated on a regular basis to give you information about current assignments.  The math page has a link you can follow to find math assignments.

If you need any further information the best way to reach us is by email -- see the links to the right of this post.  For anything that needs immediate attention, it's better to phone.

We have really enjoyed seeing all our returning students and getting to know our new students as well.

Sincerely,

House B Teachers
